Iganga, Uganda – January 25, 2025
Iganga Municipality has been turned into a sea of yellow as residents eagerly await the arrival of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is expected to address over 10,000 boda boda riders today. The visit marks the climax of his wealth creation tour in the Busoga sub-region, which has seen him engage with various groups to promote economic empowerment initiatives.
By Friday evening, the town had already embraced the ruling party’s signature color, with jubilant groups of young people clad in yellow T-shirts parading through the streets, chanting pro-Museveni slogans and dancing in anticipation of his arrival. Excitement reached a fever pitch as yellow posters and flyers flooded the town, with every corner of the Eastern Uganda town radiating enthusiasm.
As early as 7:00 AM on Saturday, groups of boda boda riders had gathered at the Iganga Central Police Station roundabout, ready to welcome the president. Many of them expressed their eagerness to hear from him and show their unwavering support for his leadership. Along the Jinja-Iganga highway, women and youth groups positioned themselves to wave to the president as his convoy makes its way into town.
Several supporters who spoke to Eye Media expressed their desire for Museveni to continue leading the country beyond 2026, citing his leadership and development programs as reasons for their loyalty. “We still want President Museveni to be our leader even after 2026 because he understands our needs and is working to improve our lives,” said one enthusiastic boda boda rider.
Amidst the excitement, many locals have praised Hajji Faruk Kirunda, Museveni’s Special Assistant on Press and Mobilization, for ensuring that this time, the president meets different groups in Busoga, including boda boda riders, women, and youth groups.
“If we had been doing things this way before, NRM would have remained unshakable in Busoga. This time, it’s different because of Faruk Kirunda—he truly cares about everyone and ensures that all voices are heard,” remarked a resident.
President Museveni’s week-long tour in Busoga has focused on wealth creation initiatives aimed at improving household incomes and boosting productivity in the region. His engagement with boda boda riders today is expected to provide insights into government support for small-scale entrepreneurs and highlight opportunities for further economic empowerment.
As the anticipation builds, Iganga stands ready to welcome the head of state, with residents hoping that his visit will bring renewed focus and investment to the region.
