Kanungu police are searching for Erias Nahabwe, who is suspected of killing his 75-year-old father, Bagambana Nyansio, on February 4, 2025. The gruesome incident occurred at their home in Kanjara Cell, Southern Ward, Kanungu Town Council.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder stemmed from a dispute over money and land documents. Nyansio, who was feeling unwell, had asked his son for financial assistance to seek medical treatment at Katate Health Center IV. When Nahabwe refused, Nyansio demanded his land documents, intending to sell part of his property to cover his medical expenses. This led to a heated argument.
At around 11:30 AM, Nyansio left for the health center, while his wife went to a nearby bar. When she returned home at approximately 7:00 PM, she was met with a horrific scene—her husband’s body lay lifeless, his head severed. A bloodstained panga, believed to be the murder weapon, was found nearby.
Area chairperson Twesigye Koronerio alerted the police, who quickly dispatched a team, including a canine unit, to the scene. The police dog tracked Nahabwe to his residence, but he had already fled. Authorities have also noted the suspicious disappearance of the deceased’s herdsman.
Nyansio’s body was transported to Katate Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that police are actively pursuing the suspects.
