Njeru, Buikwe District – February 16, 2025

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three people early Sunday morning at Mbiiko Trading Centre along the Jinja-Kampala Highway in Buikwe District.

The fatal crash, which occurred at around 7:04 AM, involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, registration number UBF 164D, transporting sacks of maize from Kampala to Jinja. The vehicle was being driven by Lubega John, a 40-year-old resident of Mubende District.

According to reports from SP Butoto Hellen, the Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson, Lubega lost control of the truck due to high speed. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a trench, leading to the deaths of all three occupants.

The deceased have been identified as:

  1. Lubega John (40), the truck driver, Muganda by tribe, resident of Mubende District.
  2. Kamoga Robert (29), the turnman, Muganda by tribe, resident of Mubende District.
  3. Mbabazi Innocent (16), a passenger in the vehicle, Munyankole by tribe.

Their bodies have been taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.

By press time, efforts to remove the wreckage from the scene were ongoing as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution and observe speed limits to avoid such tragedies.
