An elderly and disabled woman, Jane Nakuru, 74, has been left homeless after her two biological sons, Jackson Sakwa, 39, and Joseph Waboka, 28, allegedly sold off the only Kibanja their late father left behind.
Nakuru, a resident of Nyinze village in Kangulumira Subcounty, crawled to the office of the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kayunga, Trevor Solomon Baleke, to seek justice.
She reported that her sons took advantage of her illness and absence to sell the ¾-acre piece of land to a retired teacher, Phoebe Negesa, for UGX 6 million.
“I was admitted in Kampala under the care of my stepdaughter. When I returned home, I found a stranger tilling my Kibanja,” Nakuru lamented.
The elderly mother, who once had six children, now only has Sakwa and Waboka after losing the rest. Ironically, she says, it is these surviving sons who are now tormenting her.
Deputy RDC Baleke condemned the act, expressing disappointment in young people who mistreat their parents over property.
“Instead of protecting and caring for her, you have made her crawl to this office in search of justice,” Baleke said.
The matter has been scheduled for further deliberation on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, when the LCI chairman, neighbors, and all parties involved in the transaction are around as per the summonses issued by the Deputy RDC.
Known for his skill in revolving family and land conflicts, Baleke has warned against illegal land sales that leave vulnerable individuals destitute, emphasizing the importance of family consent and legal procedures in land transactions.
