Jinja District police are on high alert following the escape of ten suspects from custody at Jinja Central Police Station. Law enforcement officers have since managed to rearrest one of the escapees during an immediate operation, while the search for the remaining suspects continues.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 30th, has prompted an extensive investigation by the Kiira Regional Police Command, led by Regional Police Commander (RPC) Charles Nsaba. Authorities are working to establish the circumstances under which the suspects, who had been charged with minor offenses such as affray and public nuisance, managed to break free.
Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi, confirmed the rearrest of one suspect and assured the public that efforts to apprehend the others are ongoing. He further stated that the security protocols at Jinja Central Police Station are under thorough review to prevent future breaches.

Meanwhile, 12 police officers have been detained and charged in connection with the escape. RPC Nsaba emphasized that protecting public safety remains a top priority and warned that anyone found guilty of sabotaging the criminal justice system will face serious consequences. He also issued a stern reminder to police officers about their responsibilities, stressing that “command, control, and administration must be taken seriously at all police facilities.”
The recaptured suspect, along with those still on the run, will face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody. Authorities have urged members of the public to report any information that may aid in the recapture of the fugitives.
Investigations continue as police intensify efforts to restore order and accountability within the force.
