Tororo, Uganda – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Tororo District has called on newly trained patriots to become ambassadors of patriotism within their schools and communities. Speaking at the colorful pass-out ceremony of 1,034 student patriots held at Mahanga Playground in Nagongera Town Council, the Deputy RDC urged the youth to uphold the values and principles they have acquired during their training.
The students, drawn from 10 secondary schools across West Budama North Constituency, underwent intensive patriotism training aimed at instilling discipline, love for country, and a sense of national responsibility. The Deputy RDC emphasized that patriotism is a cornerstone of nation-building and a key factor in Uganda’s development journey.
“You are now ambassadors of patriotism. Go and practice what you have learned — serve your schools and communities with integrity, discipline, and dedication,” he said.
He warned the students against indulging in behaviors that could derail their future such as alcoholism, drug abuse, absenteeism, and teenage pregnancies. “These are vices that not only destroy individuals but also weaken the moral fabric of our society,” he cautioned.
The Deputy RDC also applauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for initiating the patriotism program in schools, noting that it aligns with the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) core principles. “This program has played a vital role in transforming Uganda from the turmoil of the 1980s into the stable and developing nation we see today,” he remarked.
The participating schools included Kirewa SSS, Paya SSS, Mahanga SSS, Petta Community SSS, St Maria Goretti SSS, Portland SSS, Barinyanga Technical School, St Pius X Seminary, Kisoko High School, and St Joseph Sop Sop Seed School.
In a stern warning, the Deputy RDC stated that any school failing to participate in patriotism training would face disciplinary action, as this would be a direct violation of presidential directives and Ministry of Education guidelines.
Mr. Luke Emuron, the District Coordinator of Patriotism and Headteacher of St. Peter’s College, commended the commitment of headteachers, school administrators, patrons, and school boards for supporting the initiative. He called on all stakeholders to continue fostering a culture of patriotism among students for the betterment of the nation.
The event marked a significant milestone in promoting national values among the youth, reinforcing the government’s vision of nurturing responsible and patriotic citizens.
