Kamuli – April 8, 2025 — In a significant political development, Owek. Veronica Vennah Kagona, the State Minister for Youth and ICT in the Busoga Kingdom, has officially stepped aside from her ministerial role to vie for the Kamuli Woman Member of Parliament seat in the forthcoming elections.
Kagona tendered her formal request for official leave in a letter addressed to Owek. Joseph Muvawala, the Kingdom’s Prime Minister (Katuukiro), citing her desire to concentrate on national elective leadership. Her departure is effective April 8, 2025.
In the letter, Kagona expressed deep gratitude to His Majesty the Kyabazinga and the Busoga Kingdom leadership for entrusting her with the ministerial responsibility since 2016. “It has been a great honor and humbling experience to contribute to the advancement of my Kingdom, especially in matters concerning Basoga youth,” she noted.
Kagona emphasized that her decision follows “reflective consultations” and aligns with her aspiration to serve the people of Bugabula at a national level. She confirmed her intention to run for the Kamuli District Woman MP seat, promising to uphold the values of the Kingdom even in her new political journey.
“I do this with deep respect for the Kingdom’s structures and seek your blessing and guidance as I embark on this new journey of service,” she stated.
Her announcement comes just days after incumbent Kamuli Woman MP, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, accused the Busoga Kingdom of orchestrating political sabotage by allegedly fronting one of its ministers to contest against her. Kagona’s resignation and entry into the race is expected to intensify political dynamics in Kamuli, a region historically loyal to Kadaga.
Despite the rising political tensions, Kagona maintained a tone of unity and purpose, stating, “I remain committed to the vision and values of Obwa Kyabazinga, and pledge to keep the banner raised.”
She further pledged her support to ensure a smooth transition and affirmed her readiness to serve the Kingdom in any other capacity deemed fit.
Kagona’s decision signals a bold move by a new generation of Busoga leaders stepping onto the national stage, with many watching to see how the contest between her and Kadaga will unfold in what is shaping up to be one of Kamuli’s most closely watched races.
