KANUNGU – A cloud of fear and intrigue descended over Kamutungu Village in Kanungu District after a man, self-styled as “Esau,” emerged from the shadows with a chilling declaration: the beginning of a personal mission to “end President Museveni’s rule.”
In a 3-minute, 39-second video released on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Esau—believed to be in his late 40s—filmed himself deep within a forest, dressed in camouflage-style trousers, jungle boots, and armed with a freshly sharpened machete. He made a grave announcement: “The time for change has come—whether people want it or not.”
The man, who said he neither hates Ugandans nor subscribes to political parties, issued cryptic warnings to politicians and specifically targeted President Museveni, whom he labeled “the only obstacle” in his journey.
“Stay alert and informed,” Esau said, promising Ugandans that within 48 hours, “the journey would begin,” and that Uganda would be the epicenter of a transformation the world has never seen.
But security agencies weren’t about to wait for that countdown.
By Monday morning, a joint force of UPDF soldiers and Uganda Police had cordoned off his home in Kamutungu, Nyakatunguru Ward, Kihihi Town Council. Esau was arrested without resistance—but not without drama.
Witnesses say he was quoting scriptures from the Bible, specifically Genesis 27, as he was bundled into a police vehicle.
Kanungu Deputy RDC Gaddie Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is currently being interrogated at Kihihi Police Station.
While the motive and mental stability of Esau remain under investigation, authorities are taking no chances.
“This is no ordinary case of political excitement. This is someone who positioned himself as a lone operator with militant intentions, invoking religion, and threatening state security. We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” a security source told The Eye Media.
As Uganda edges closer to the 2026 general elections, this bizarre episode is a stark reminder of the undercurrents of tension—and of individuals lurking in the margins, armed with visions, machetes, and messianic delusions.
