A total of 795 aspirants have so far picked NRM nomination forms to contest for parliamentary and district chairperson positions across the country, as the party’s internal elections enter a crucial phase.
The picking of nomination forms was officially kickstarted on Monday, June 2, 2025, by none other than Vice President Rtd Maj. Jesca Alupo, who arrived at the NRM Secretariat as early as 8:00 am to pick forms to retain her seat as Katakwi Woman MP.
Her move set the tone for what turned out to be a highly active first day, with hundreds of aspirants following suit.
By close of business on Monday, daily returns from the NRM Electoral Commission showed that 427 aspirants had picked forms for Constituency MP, 210 for Woman MP, and 144 for LC V Chairperson positions — making a combined total of 781 under the main categories.
The sub-regions with the highest number of aspirants included: ✅ Ankole — 86 aspirants
✅ West Nile — 56 aspirants
✅ Teso — 55 aspirants
✅ Rwenzori — 61 aspirants
✅ Greater Masaka — 49 aspirants
Additional categories under Special Interest Groups (SIG) MPs saw 14 aspirants pick forms:
- Workers MPs — 3 aspirants
- PWDs MPs — 2 aspirants
- Older Persons MPs — 6 aspirants
- Youth MPs — 3 aspirants
This brought the grand total of aspirants to 795 on Day One.

The NRM grassroots elections kicked off on May 6, starting with village-level leadership, and have now progressed to the primaries for parliamentary and district flagbearers, ahead of the July 16 election date for parliamentary flagbearers.
NRM Electoral Commission officials told The Eye Media that the first day of picking nomination forms proceeded smoothly, with huge interest from across the country.
“The turnout has been excellent. The process is very active and competitive — we expect the numbers to keep growing,” one NRM official said.
