Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among this morning officially picked nomination forms to contest for the position of Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament on the NRM ticket.
Among picked her forms from the NRM Secretariat in Kampala, where she was received by NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi.
By press time, Among remained unopposed, with no other contender having expressed interest in the party flag for the Bukedea Woman MP seat.
Clad in the party’s signature yellow, the Speaker completed the process under the watch of party officials and members of the media.
Over her current term as Speaker, Among has spearheaded significant development projects in Bukedea, transforming the socio-economic landscape of her home district.
Under her leadership, Bukedea has seen construction of new classroom blocks and rehabilitation of schools, improving access to quality education.
Among has also ensured that health centres are equipped with better medical supplies and staff, enhancing healthcare service delivery in her district.
She has also support for women and youth livelihood programs, with several groups receiving seed capital to boost income-generating activities.
Road infrastructure upgrades, connecting previously isolated areas of the district and support for sports and talent development, with new sports equipment and sponsorship for youth tournaments have also been worked on by Among.
Among is also credited for bringing national attention to Bukedea, lobbying for government support in various sectors.
With such a track record, NRM insiders say it is unsurprising that no challenger has so far stepped forward.
Political observers say her popularity on the ground and her close working relationship with President Yoweri Museveni have consolidated her political base ahead of the upcoming NRM primaries.
The NRM nomination process is ongoing, with final lists of candidates expected to be announced in the coming days.
