Shock and concern have gripped Butegere Village in Butansi Sub-county, Kamuli District, after a bizarre incident in which a local NRM chairperson was violently attacked and bitten by his own pig — leaving him hospitalized in critical condition.
Mwenda John, aged 60, who was recently elected as NRM village chairperson, is now battling severe injuries at Kamuli General Hospital after the shocking attack by an animal he had raised for years.
Eyewitnesses say the pig had strayed into neighboring gardens, destroying crops. In an attempt to return it home, Mwenda was met with unexpected and brutal aggression.
The pig reportedly bit him multiple times, inflicting serious wounds that required urgent medical attention.
Speaking from his hospital bed, a visibly shaken Mwenda said, “It is not only painful physically but also emotionally, as I never expected such an attack from an animal I’ve raised with care.”
Mpandha Mugweri, who is now acting as his caretaker at the hospital, expressed alarm over Mwenda’s condition. “He is in a dire state. The wounds are serious, and he urgently needs both medical and financial help,” Mugweri told Eye Media.
Mwenda is one of the newly elected NRM village leaders in Kamuli, having taken office as part of the district’s restructured party leadership. His hospitalization has sparked concern among local residents and party officials.
As the village reels from this unusual event, community members are being urged to exercise better control over domestic animals to avoid similar tragedies. Meanwhile, well-wishers are being called upon to extend both moral and financial support to help Mwenda through his recovery.
