In a harrowing twist to what has become one of the most shocking ritual murder cases in Busoga, police in Njeru have arrested the third suspect involved in the gruesome killing of Jesca Mutesi — a woman lured and murdered in cold blood inside the compound of former Jinja Inspector of Schools, Aminah Mutesi.
The arrest was confirmed Wednesday evening by Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi, who noted that the suspect was picked up in a joint operation involving the Kiira Regional Flying Squad and officers from Njeru Police Station.
Mubi revealed that all three suspects — Aminah Mutesi and two male accomplices — are now in custody at Njeru Police Station and are expected to face murder and conspiracy charges.
How Jesca Mutesi Was Lured and Killed
According to police findings, the deceased, Jesca Mutesi (also known as Jesca East), was targeted by the two men working on the orders of Aminah Mutesi. She was reportedly lured to Mutesi’s home in Njeru under the pretext of a business deal and was sent Shs 5,000 via mobile money as transport.
Upon arrival, Jesca was taken to the Boys’ Quarter of Aminah’s home where she, together with the two male suspects, spent the night. It was in that very room where she was strangled the following night — allegedly on Mutesi’s command, with the promise of a Shs 3 million payment.
However, sources indicate the two men were only given Shs 500,000 after committing the murder.
The suspects, including the newly arrested accomplice, reportedly buried Jesca’s body within Aminah Mutesi’s compound. Police later exhumed the remains following days of intense investigations and tip-offs from locals who had grown suspicious of foul play. Mutesi Aminah and the earlier arrested make accomplice led the police team to the very place where they had buried Jesca in a polythene bag.
Background: A Shocking Betrayal
The case sent shockwaves across Busoga and beyond, especially due to the alleged involvement of a respected former education officer, Mutesi Aminah, in orchestrating the killing of a fellow woman—believed to be a ritual sacrifice aimed at gaining promotion and wealth.
Residents who once revered Mutesi as a role model for their children have now turned cold with disbelief and anger. The fact that the murder happened under her roof, and that she may have even supervised the burial, has left the community horrified.
“We can’t believe a woman who helped our children succeed in school could plan such a barbaric act,” a neighbor in Njeru told The Eye Media.
Police Speak Out
SP James Mubi confirmed that charges will be filed in the coming days as police finalize investigations. He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially involving strangers or unexplained movements around private residences.
“This case is a reminder that evil can wear any face — even that of someone educated and respected,” Mubi said.
The Eye Media will continue following the case closely as prosecution begins. Forensic evidence, mobile money transactions, and witness accounts are expected to form part of the critical trail in this chilling murder that has left the region shaken to its core.
Jesca Mutesi’s body has since been laid to rest in Idudi, amidst tears, anger, and cries for justice.
