A wave of yellow and resounding chants of “Team Mulamu!” echoed through Iganga District on Tuesday June 10, 2025 as NRM leaders from across Busoga sub-region overwhelmingly endorsed Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The endorsement came during a high-energy sensitisation meeting held under large yellow tents, attended by newly elected NRM leaders and delegates from nine districts — Bugiri, Bugweri, Iganga, Jinja, Kaliro, Luuka, Mayuge, Namayingo, and Namutumba.
Clad in a signature yellow gomesi, Speaker Among was received with thunderous applause as the leaders extended their symbolic pledge, raising posters bearing her portrait and voicing unwavering support for her CEC bid.
The Busoga leaders commended the Speaker for her exceptional leadership in Parliament and her consistent engagement with grassroots structures.
They lauded her as a “motherly figure” whose presence at the helm of the party’s leadership would further unite and empower women in the NRM and across the country.
During the meeting, Speaker Among emphasized the importance of unity, service delivery, and effective monitoring of government programs, reminding leaders of their responsibility to champion the NRM’s core values in their respective communities.
“The time to work for our people is now. Let us not wait for elections to return to our villages. Service delivery must be seen, felt, and appreciated,” she told the cheering crowd.
This latest endorsement from the greater Busoga region marks a significant boost to Among’s candidacy as the race for the influential CEC position gains momentum.
The event also highlighted the increasing consolidation of party support behind the Speaker, whose hands-on approach and frequent grassroots engagements have continued to win her admiration among both leaders and ordinary citizens.
With the NRM CEC elections drawing closer, all signs indicate that Busoga is solidly behind Maama Among.
