Jinja District Chairperson Moses Batwala is nursing emotional shock after narrowly surviving a gruesome domestic assault allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Sanyu, following a heated confrontation sparked by a mysterious love letter.
The drama, which unfolded on Tuesday night and climaxed in the early hours of Wednesday, began when an anonymous letter was delivered to Sanyu by a boda boda rider.
In the letter, whose author only identified himself as a civil servant, Batwala was accused of wooing married women—specifically, the writer’s wife. The writer sternly warned Batwala to “back off” and claimed he was protecting his marriage by remaining anonymous.
On reading the letter, Sanyu reportedly flew into a rage and, according to sources close to the family, sharpened a kitchen knife in preparation for what she described as “teaching him a lesson he won’t forget.”
When Batwala returned home, he found a hostile wife waiting, armed and angry. She made an attempted attack on him but he managed to vanish without injury.
Batwala reportedly fled for his life and ran straight to Jinja City Division Police Station, where he lodged a case of threatening violence against his wife.

The LCV boss presented pictorial evidence of the weapon allegedly intended for the attack.
A source at at Jinja City Division confirmed receiving the case and exhibiting both the letter and photographic evidence. Namuganza was subsequently summoned and detained, though she was later released on police bond following the intervention of family members. Investigations are ongoing.
The case is being taken seriously due to the potential for grievous harm.
“This was a case of attempted domestic violence. It’s fortunate that no injuries were sustained. But my colleagues are investigating both the source of the letter and the intent behind the attack,” some officer said.
Batwala has not yet issued an official public comment, but insiders at the district headquarters say the incident has left him shaken.
The shocking events have sparked heated conversations across Jinja, with residents calling for calm and urging couples to resolve misunderstandings through dialogue rather than violence.
