Police in Kabale District have launched investigations into a suspected murder after the body of an unidentified man was discovered dumped in a bush near a river at Omunturo village, Nyakasharara parish, Kaharo sub-county.
The lifeless body, covered in bruises, was found on Tuesday, June 11, around 5:00 PM by local herdsmen. Authorities suspect the victim was killed by unknown assailants and dumped in the area.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the same man had earlier been seen walking aimlessly in Nyanja on June 9. He was taken to Nyanja Police Post by the area chairman, Twinomugusha Silver. “Police officers tried to engage him, but he refused to disclose his identity and left the station,” Maate said.
Two days later, his body was found lying near the river, sparking suspicions of foul play. Police from Kabale Central Police Station visited and processed the scene, recorded witness statements, and transported the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Police are calling on the public to assist in identifying the deceased. Anyone missing a male relative is urged to visit the hospital mortuary. The public is also encouraged to share any information that could help trace those behind the suspected murder.
Investigations are ongoing.
