Police officers across the Kiira Regional Police Command have kickstarted the National Identification renewal exercise with enthusiasm and commendable order, setting the pace for citizens in the region.

Led by the Regional Police Commander (RPC), SSP Charles Nsaba, officers turned up at designated registration points within the regional and divisional headquarters in Jinja, where National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) teams had pitched camp to ease the process.

While addressing officers at the regional headquarters, SSP Nsaba emphasized the critical role of the National ID in accessing vital government services, including the police payroll system, voter eligibility, citizenship verification, and data for national planning.

“The National ID is more than just a card; it is the foundation of your eligibility as a citizen to receive services and participate in national development. I commend NIRA for partnering with us to bring this service closer,” SSP Nsaba said.

He applauded the Jinja-based NIRA officials for their collaboration and extended special thanks to his deputy, SSP David Katunda, for overseeing the coordination that ensured a smooth and efficient rollout.

Speaking at the same event, Regional Human Resource Officer SSP Andrew Muzira assured that “no officer will be left behind.” He praised the officers for their prompt response and positive attitude, urging them to serve as mobilisers in their communities.

“Let’s use our platforms and reach to educate the public on the importance of enrolling or renewing their National IDs. We should be the first to lead by example,” Muzira said.

The ongoing exercise is part of the nationwide mass enrollment and renewal drive launched by the government through NIRA ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Kiira Region Police spokesperson SP James Mubi said the force’s participation reflects the growing awareness and responsibility among public servants to comply with national directives.

“This is a critical moment. Every officer’s involvement sends a powerful message to the wider public,” Mubi noted.

The exercise continues throughout the week, with NIRA officials stationed at all key police divisions across the region.
