A cloud of shock and sorrow hangs over Mbuya, Nakawa Division, after a tragic shooting incident at the offices of Ultimate Security Company claimed three lives, including that of the shooter.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred at around 9:00 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, when a security guard identified as Mwaawa Richard reportedly opened fire on his colleagues, killing Noella Zella, an Assistant Human Resource Officer, and Bwampata Salez, an Armory Officer, before being fatally shot by police officers who swiftly responded to the scene.
The chilling incident unfolded at the company’s offices located in Mbuya, Bugolobi Parish, under the jurisdiction of Jinja Road Police.
Eyewitnesses recount moments of panic as gunshots rang out in the ordinarily calm corporate environment. “We heard gunfire and people started screaming and running. Within minutes, police were on the scene,” said one worker from a nearby office block.
Preliminary police findings indicate that Mwaawa Richard entered the company premises armed, targeted Noella and Salez, and opened fire. The motive behind his actions remains unclear.
Police said officers who responded to an emergency call encountered an active shooter situation. “Our officers acted swiftly and engaged the suspect, fatally shooting him to neutralize the threat,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
All three bodies have since been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations. The firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been recovered and will undergo forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
“The public is urged to remain calm and allow the police to conduct a thorough investigation into this unfortunate event,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.
Ultimate Security Company has yet to issue an official statement, but sources inside the firm described the mood as one of “utter devastation.”
