Jinja | The Eye Media

Fresh controversy is brewing at Jinja-based NBS FM following the sudden termination of senior news reporter Hajjat Aminah Mirembe, who has been with the station for over a decade. While the official termination letter cited “staff restructuring” as the reason, insiders say there is more than meets the eye.

A close source told The Eye Media that Mirembe’s dismissal may have been influenced by her political stance, particularly during the last internal NRM elections.

“During the party primaries, Aminah openly supported Hon. Edwin Lufafa, while the station director was rooting for Faluwa Kitaakule. That didn’t sit well with some people in management,” the source, who preferred anonymity, disclosed.

Mirembe is not only a seasoned journalist but also a NRM delegate and the publicity secretary of the party in Jinja City. It is believed her growing influence and contrasting political loyalties may have unsettled some individuals at the top.

Furthermore, it is reported that Mirembe fell out with her former boss, Esther Mirembe, who recently went on leave to join active politics. Esther is currently vying for the Jinja City Woman MP seat.

Just days before her sacking, NBS FM was embroiled in another bizarre scandal involving witchcraft.

It is alleged that shortly after taking over as acting station manager, Irene Mbonizani—former Personal Assistant to the CEO—found suspicious charms hidden in her office. Inside the charms were papers bearing names of several staff members, allegedly targeted by dark magic.

Speaking on the matter, Hajjat Aminah Mirembe confirmed that her name was among those found.

“Elina lyange balyagaine mu lupapula olulimu talasimu,” she said in Lusoga, meaning “Even my name was on the paper wrapped in juju.”

The revelation sent shockwaves across the station, with some staff members now fearing for both their jobs and lives.

It remains unclear whether the juju saga and Aminah’s termination are connected, but sources suggest the environment at the station has become tense, with increasing division along political and personal lines.

No official comment has been issued by the station management as of press time.
