In a bold humanitarian gesture following the deadly anti-government protests in Nairobi, the Kenyan Ministry of Health has announced a full waiver of medical bills for all victims injured during the demonstrations held on June 17 and 25, 2025.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale said the government has directed the management of Kenyatta National Hospital to clear all medical bills for those affected by the unrest. The bills will now be settled under the hospital’s Disaster Emergency Fund.
“This move is aimed at easing the burden of injury and emotional distress brought upon many Kenyans during the recent protests. As a Ministry, our hearts go out to all those affected, and we remain committed to ensuring they receive the care and support they need,” the statement read in part.
Notably, the waiver also covers the hospital bill of the late Mr. Boniface Kariuki, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the protests. His outstanding bill had accumulated to a staggering KSh 815,805 at the time of his death.
CS Duale extended condolences to families who lost loved ones, promising continued support for those still recovering.
This decision comes as civil unrest continues to grip parts of the country, with human rights organizations demanding accountability and medical support for victims.
