As the countdown to the NRM party primaries intensifies, a new opinion poll has revealed that Annet Nabirye is the overwhelming favorite among voters in Luuka District to carry the party flag for Woman Member of Parliament.
The survey, conducted between June 25 and July 2, sampled 1,200 NRM-leaning voters across seven sub-counties of Luuka. Participants were asked a straightforward question:
“If the NRM primaries for Luuka District Woman MP were held today, who would you vote for?”
The responses were as follows:
- Annet Nabirye – 62%
- Hon. Esther Mbayo (Incumbent) – 19%
- Other candidates – 13%
- Undecided – 6%
The poll results suggest a significant shift in voter loyalty, with the majority now leaning toward Annet Nabirye, who is widely praised for her grassroots presence, humility, and hands-on community engagement.
“She’s not just promising, she’s already serving—even before being elected. That’s why we’re with her,” said Nafula Justine, a women’s group coordinator in Bukanga.
Supporters across Waibuga, Ikumbya, Nawampiti, Irongo, and Bukanga say Nabirye is the right choice to rejuvenate leadership in Luuka, especially for women, youth, and the underrepresented.
“Nabirye checks on our health centers, speaks up for our farmers, and attends village meetings. We want a leader who lives with us, not above us,” added Isaac Muyomba, a teacher in Irongo.
While the incumbent Hon. Esther Mbayo still commands some support, many voters expressed dissatisfaction with what they describe as “detachment and unfulfilled promises”.

With the NRM primaries set for July 17, Annet Nabirye has urged her supporters to remain calm, united, and focused on the bigger goal.
“This race is not about personalities. It’s about Luuka’s future. Let’s show the country what unity looks like,” she told cheering supporters at a recent rally in Kiyunga.
Political observers say that if the polling trend continues, Nabirye is on course for a decisive victory in the primaries—and possibly a new era in Luuka’s parliamentary representation.
