KAMULI | EYE MEDIA —
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has this Wednesday suspended two of its top officials in Kamuli District over their alleged involvement in the rigging scandal that rocked the party’s just-concluded parliamentary primaries.
The suspension of Kamuli District NRM Registrar, Gwambuga Godfrey, and District NRM Administrator, Michael Magala, was announced today by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, as the party seeks to restore public confidence and internal discipline.
“We cannot afford to have individuals facing serious criminal allegations continuing to represent the party. Their suspension is with immediate effect,” Dr. Tanga told journalists.
Registrar Behind Bars
The action comes just days after Gwambuga was remanded to Kamuli government prison by the Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges including forgery, falsification of tally registers, and conspiracy to commit a felony. His co-accused remain at large.
Michael Magala, although not yet charged in court, has also been suspended as the party investigates his alleged administrative role in manipulating the primaries in favour of certain candidates.
NRM Feeling the Heat
The suspensions follow sustained pressure from party members and aspirants who accused the Kamuli NRM office of being the nerve centre of vote rigging during the primaries. Several complaints were filed, pointing to altered results, ghost tally sheets, and open bias.
“This is a step in the right direction. The party must cleanse itself if we are to hold credible general elections in 2026,” said a senior party member in Kamuli.
What Next?
Dr. Tanga Odoi indicated that a broader internal review is underway, and more suspensions or disciplinary actions may follow depending on the findings.
Gwambuga is expected to return to court on 28th July 2025, while Magala’s future now hinges on the party’s internal probe.
