In a shocking turn of events early Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Kenya’s iconic political leader Raila Odinga passed away at the age of 80 while taking a morning walk at an Ayurvedic treatment center in Koothattukulam, Kerala, India. Sources confirm that the former Prime Minister suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was rushed to Devamatha Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Raila Odinga, a man whose name was synonymous with resilience and political reform in Kenya, leaves behind a nation in mourning. From his early activism in the 1970s to his tenure as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, Raila’s life was a testament to courage, determination, and an unyielding pursuit of justice.

Throughout his decades-long career, Raila faced imprisonment, exile, and relentless political battles, yet he remained unbroken, fighting tirelessly for electoral reforms, human rights, and the democratic aspirations of millions of Kenyans. His leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) cemented his status as a formidable force in Kenya’s political landscape.

Tributes have poured in from across the globe. World leaders lauded his commitment to peace and democracy, while Kenyan citizens took to the streets, community halls, churches, and mosques to remember a leader who had profoundly shaped their lives.

“Raila was a fighter for the people. His vision will continue to guide Kenya long after his passing,” said one longtime ally.

As the nation grapples with the loss of one of its most influential figures, the story of Raila Odinga’s life — marked by struggle, triumph, and an unwavering dedication to his country — will continue to inspire generations to come.
