Ugandans have been urged to embrace modern farming methods if the country is to unlock the full potential of its agricultural sector and spur national economic growth. The call was made by various agricultural experts during the launch of Meta Plant and Equipment Uganda in Kireka, where the company unveiled an array of advanced farming machinery, including the highly acclaimed New Holland tractors.
Agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy, but analysts acknowledge that the sector is still held back by limited mechanisation, with the majority of farmers relying on traditional hand hoes and ox-ploughs for cultivation.
To bridge this gap, Meta Plant and Equipment Uganda, a subsidiary of global agricultural machinery supplier Meta Plant and Equipment, has officially opened operations in Uganda, marking a major milestone in the country’s agricultural transformation agenda.

At the colourful event, the firm showcased its latest machinery consignment led by New Holland tractors, tractor-mounted ploughs from Field King, as well as cultivation equipment from brand Dezzi. Other implements displayed included tractor plough types commonly used for deep tilling and soil preparation.
Guests at the launch included prominent Ugandan farmers, financial institutions providing agricultural credit, and executives from Meta Plant and Equipment headquarters.
Live field demonstration videos displayed at the event illustrated the tractors ploughing farmland and carrying heavy loads, performances that drew wide praise from farmers already using the brand.
Several clients offered glowing testimonials highlighting the tractors’ durability and fuel efficiency qualities for which the New Holland tractor brand is globally recognised.
Among the farmers giving testimonials was from , who acquired his New Holland tractor months ago.

“I purchased my New Holland tractor a few months back, and I have put it to the test in my fields, it delivers beyond expectation. It ploughs faster, carries heavier produce loads, and performs efficiently even on tough terrain. It has completely changed how I work,” Okwi said.
Company officials Docus Najjemba and Micheal Woodward emphasised the importance of adopting mechanised farming, particularly the use of tractors and modern ploughing systems, to boost household incomes and drive national development.
Speaking at the event, Micheal Woodward, the General Manager Agricultural Division at Meta Plant and Equipment, further highlighted the company’s 2026 service strategy.
“Mechanisation only succeeds if farmers can rely on long-term support. soon, we shall be launching partnerships with four stations nationwide to support tractor mobility, along with seven regional spare-part centres for aftersales service. We’re also establishing authorised aftersales engineers and service hubs across the country,” Woodward said.
“We want Ugandan farmers not only to buy quality tractors, but to access trusted plough brands like Field King and robust machinery like Dezzi, knowing that aftersales will be readily available.”
The Managing Director and CEO of Meta Plant and Equipment Uganda, Mark Davidson , noted that tractors not only reduce labour input but increase farm yields by improving the speed and quality of cultivation.
Meta Plant Chief Executive also announced plans to support farmers who may not immediately afford to buy tractors, saying the company has established an asset financing model in partnership with Ugandan banks.
Under the arrangement, farmers can access New Holland tractors through selected financial partners and pay in manageable instalments.
Representatives from participating banks including , and , explained their tractor financing packages and pledged continued support toward agricultural mechanisation.
The tractors and equipment are currently available for viewing at the Meta Plant and Equipment Uganda offices in .
Meta Plant and Equipment Uganda leadership reaffirmed the company’s commitment to driving Uganda’s agricultural revolution by delivering world-class, resilient and fuel-smart tractors, led by the trusted New Holland tractors, to farmers across the nation.
