KYENJOJO — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential flag bearer, has today concluded his campaign trail in the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions, addressing thousands of supporters at Katoosa Primary School playground in Kyenjojo District.
Accompanied by First Daughter Natasha Karugire Museveni, the President expressed satisfaction with turnout and reiterated the NRM’s commitment to peace, wealth creation, and accountable leadership.
“I am glad to have concluded my campaign rallies in both Rwenzori and Tooro. I thank you for the massive support,” President Museveni said.
Speaking on wealth creation, Museveni reminded Ugandans that the country has always been naturally wealthy, citing explorer Henry Morton Stanley, who in the late 1880s noted the abundance of banana plantations in Bunyoro-Kitara, even in the absence of electricity or tarmacked roads.
“The wealth was already here. Peace and stability are what allow us to build on it,” he said.
On peace and security, the President highlighted the stability NRM has maintained over the past four decades, particularly in border communities near the Democratic Republic of Congo, emphasizing that peace is the foundation for development.
Infrastructure was also on the agenda. Museveni outlined road projects in the region, including upgrades on Kyenjojo (Kihura)–Bwizi–Rwamwanja–Kahunge road, Mpara–Bwizi road, and the upcoming Fort Portal–Kijura road.
“If you were to give marks, give us about eight out of ten,” Museveni joked.
On the Parish Development Model (PDM), the President reiterated zero tolerance for fund misuse, stressing that PDM resources are strictly for poor households, and called on communities to hold SACCO leadership accountable.
“If the SACCO committee is not performing well, call a general meeting and remove them,” he advised.
The rally also showcased success stories, including Ms. Cedon Kokugonza, who dropped out in Senior Two but trained for free at the Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub in Kyenjojo. Kokugonza now runs her own salon, keeps poultry, and employs three workers.
Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anitah Among, also NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), praised Museveni’s leadership, commended road infrastructure developments, and highlighted health sector challenges at Kyenjojo General Hospital, calling for expansion to improve service delivery.
NRM Kyenjojo Chairperson Edward Nkonge Rwamwaro credited the President for 40 years of peace and unity, which he said have underpinned visible socio-economic transformation in the district. He noted that 51,799 households, representing 39.5% of Kyenjojo, have benefited from PDM programs with Shs51.6bn disbursed.
Under the Emyooga programme, 54 SACCOs with 25,336 members have received Shs2.76bn, boosting small businesses and household incomes. Rwamwaro also highlighted progress in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, water, sanitation, and electricity, noting that the district is now better connected and serviced than ever before.
The event drew thousands of supporters, NRM Central Executive Committee members, MPs, religious and cultural leaders, underscoring the party’s influence and sustained support in the region.
“All these achievements show what peace, unity, and focused leadership can deliver. As Kyenjojo, we remain grateful and committed to supporting programs that uplift our people and transform our district,” Rwamwaro said.
