Jinja, Uganda – What began as a bold and compassionate dream in 2016 has grown into one of Uganda’s most impactful private healthcare initiatives. Whisper Hospital, formerly known as Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity, has marked ten years of delivering affordable, high-quality medical care to thousands across the country.
Founded by Veronika Cejpkova, the hospital was established on March 19, 2016, in Jinja City with a mission to make standard and emergency healthcare accessible to underserved communities. At a time when quality medical services were out of reach for many, the facility stood out by offering care at minimal or no cost, particularly to children.
Starting from modest beginnings along Ninzam Road, the hospital quickly gained recognition for its unique approach centered on compassion, love, and patient-centered care. However, the journey was not without challenges.
Operating in a new environment while providing largely free services put immense pressure on the facility, nearly forcing its founder to give up. But resilience and commitment kept the dream alive.
Within just two years, the hospital had outgrown its original premises due to overwhelming demand. It later relocated to a larger facility on Madhvani Road in Jinja, signaling the beginning of its expansion phase.
As the need for broader services grew, the hospital extended its care beyond pediatrics to include maternity services, leading to its rebranding as Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity. Over the years, it has become a key player in maternal and child health, tackling issues such as malnutrition, sickle cell disease, and infectious diseases including HIV and tuberculosis.
The hospital has also evolved into a modern medical center serving both low-income and corporate clients, partnering with several insurance providers to widen access to its services. This growth paved the way for the opening of a second branch in Kampala, located in Kyanja.
On March 19, 2026, the hospital celebrated its 10th anniversary with a colorful procession through Jinja City, led by the Mbiiko Brass Band. The event brought together staff, partners, former patients, and members of the public in a celebration of a decade of impact.
During the celebrations, hospital leadership reflected on the institution’s journey and unveiled plans for the future. The milestone also marked a major rebrand to “Whisper Hospital,” symbolizing a renewed vision for the next decade.
Key developments launched during the anniversary included a modern VIP lounge, a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, and the introduction of new specialties such as neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and a physician department.
These additions complement existing services like ENT, orthopedic, and general surgery.
Speaking at the event, Chief Operating Officer Dr. Emem Offong highlighted plans to further modernize the hospital’s services, including the introduction of advanced procedures such as laparoscopy, endoscopy, and colonoscopy.
With an enhanced brand identity and a continued commitment to compassionate care, Whisper Hospital is positioning itself for even greater impact in the years ahead.
As it enters its second decade, the hospital remains focused on its founding mission—changing healthcare through love and happiness—while expanding its reach across Uganda and beyond.
