A suspect arrested in a case of murder died allegedly after falling ill from police cells.
The deceased who was in custody at Kanungu Central Police Station has been identified as Happy Biryomumisho, 43, a resident of Kibalama village,, Nyamirama subcounty, Kanungu district.
Police said Saturday afternoon that Biryomumisho developed a mysterious illness and collapsed inside the police cells on Friday evening.
The police rushed him to Kanungu health centre IV from where he was pronounced dead a few moments later, according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate.
“A death inquiry file was opened to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. Body was shifted to the mortuary and the area LCI chairperson of his village Kibalama was informed to inform the relatives,” Maate said.
Biryomumisho was arrested in connection to the murder of his neighbor, Promise Akankunda vide Kihihi CRB 211/2023.
