His Excellency Moses Kawaaluuko Kizige, Uganda’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation Friday 15th September, 2023 presented his Credentials to Her Excellency Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova.
Kizige who also Ambassador to several other countries presented the credentials Her Excellency Maia at the Presidential Palace in the Capital Chisinau.
The colourful ceremony included a full parade by the Presidential Guards and playing of the Anthems of both Uganda and Moldova.
After the presentation of Credentials, the Ambassador had a photo session with the President, before holding discussions on issues of bilateral relations.
Maia used the opportunity to thank the President of Uganda, Gen Yoweri Museveni, for his role in ensuring peace and security in the African great lakes region.
She noted that she was happy that an Ambassador had reported to Moldova, and expected that the economic activities between the two friendly countries would prosper.
She said that Moldova was open to discussions, because she sees a lot of future economic cooperation with Uganda.
Amb Kizige on his part, used the occasion to pass on condolences to the President and the people of Moldova, upon the demise of President Mircea Snergur, the founder President of Moldova (1990 – 1997) who died on Wednesday 13th September 2023 at the age of 83.
He further retariated Uganda’s and the African Union position on the Russia/Ukraine conflict, and the desire to have the conflict settled peacefully.
He further thanked the President, for having accepted Ugandan
Students who were studying in Ukraine into Moldovan Universities, once the war started.
He stated that Uganda is interested in learning from Moldova, how they were able to more than double their Per capita income from US$2,520 in 2012 to US$5,780 in 2020. Unganda with a population of close to 45million people, more than 70% of whom are below the age of 30, needs special production programs and Skilling for youths, to creat employment for them.
The Ambassador whose love for education and Agriculture is known allover, identified Education, Agriculture, and value addition as possible areas of cooperation.
Finally, the President expressed desire in importing coffee and cocoa from Uganda. He also expressed interest in dairy products, beef, and fish as other things she wants us to think about. She also expressed her desire to visit Uganda, as she has read a lot about the beautiful country.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Georgina Nakawombe, a First Secretary and Accounting Officer at the Ugandan Embassy in Moscow.
