A distressing incident unfolded at Busulwa Trading Center, Tsekululu Sub County in Namisindwa district when Kusuya Wamoka, 26, died during an alcohol drinking competition.

The challenge according to an anonymous source was on Sunday organized by a local tycoon identified as Zeki, who staged a trophy of shs.10,000 for anybody who would finish up 10 bottles of a Kenyan local branded kombucha waragi.

The few minutes tournament attracted three competitors including, Kiloton Kutosi, 25, Kusuya Wamoka (deceased) and a 27-year-old man only known as Wamutu.

Zeki set a condition that, a contestant had to drink until the bottle was exhausted without rest, while cheers from supporters were geared up.

The competition kicked off and Wamoka collapsed after taking only five bottles, prompting locals to give him first aid by dosing him with an old woman’s urine and raw eggs to drink which the efforts were futile.

Wamoka was declared dead on the way to Magale health center III for advanced treatment in the wee hours of Monday morning January 22, 2024..

Emma Bwayo, a local youth councilor in Namisindwa district described the incident as an unfortunate blaming the youths for engaging in irritating activities.

Bwayo urged the young people to utilize theiir youth-hood to work hard and refrain from such participations.

According to Moses Waburoko, the Tsekululu sub county councilor to district who condemned the incident, youths must stop having high appetite for drinking.

“This must be an example to others to work and stop believing in involving in such competition in order to get money,” he said

Julie Namara, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner confirmed that police were deployed deter any kind of violence which may erupt at the crime scene after receiving information that relatives of the deceased are planning to attack the home of Zeki who staged the challenge.

The body of the deceased has been dumped at Zeki’s home as relatives threatened to bury him there as a punishment while the other competitors are currently fighting for their lives in Magale health center III.
