Dr Joseph Muvawala, the prime minister of Busoga Kingdom, hss advocated for implementations presidential pledges, citing the recent roads of Budondo-Mbulamuti, Iganga-Luuka-Kamuli and others president Museveni promised to work upon during the liberation day celebrations at Wakitaka in Jinja City.

Muvawala wants the president to address the sugarcane challenges disturbing farmers of Busoga, calling for swift and effective debates on wetlands as the president proposes for urgent vacation.

“It is not all who is growing sugarcane, but it is all about the price and formula of paying for the cane products. We need to look at what is the “Musoga getting from the crop not telling them to leave it,” stated Muvawala, asking for alternatives on wetlandsy that he says have played a significant role in transforming Kyabazinga subjects.

He made the remarks during the 10th Kingdom’s Council (Lukiiko) at the Kingdom headquarters in Bugembe Jinja City.

Muvawala, who is proud of the region’s minerals, questions the government to identify who will own the land after exploitation of the minerals in the Bugweri district.

The Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV, who presided over the Council sitting, said efforts are underway to curb the region’s core challenges of poverty, diseases and ignorance after collectives efforts to preach togetherness in the region.

Addressing several Kingdom dignitaries including Royal Chiefs, Cabinet ministers, Chiefdom representatives, and the Kingdom youth Council, the Kyabazinga emphasised signing memorandums of understanding with development partners to steer the regional transformation.

“I thank government and cooperate companies for standing with us in the successful Busoga Royal Wedding. It built togetherness, and we need to use such factors to transform the region in fighting poverty, diseases, and ignorance,” said Kyabazinga.

He noted that this year’s emphasis is on sports to promote the talents of young people in football, rugby, and bicycle competitions, among others. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the health sector, saying more health camps shall be organised.

“During the Royal Wedding, our people benefited from the health camps organised by the Kingdom. We must lobby for more of them to upgrade the heath of the Basoga,” he said.

The Kyabazinga, after commending the ongoing tourism campaign of Exploring Busoga, which aims at discovering interesting tourist attractions in the region, praised the youths for loving their culture and cited Busoga Kingdom Youth Council (BKYC) for the significant developmental ideas it is envisioning to the young people.

BKYC brings together young men and women from different chiefdoms to represent peers in transformative initiatives that steer the development of the Kingdom.

“We have since offered scholarships to children in primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions. And we thank parents and urge parents to continue paying school fees for the other unlucky children,” he said before calling for the growing of crops for sale and home consumption.
