Presidency Minister, Milly Babirye Babalanda’s bid for Budiope West Member of Parliament is gaining more momentum by day that passes.

It has now become a new normal for Babalanda to be given heroine welcome each time she makes public appearance in the eastern district where residents have already named her their MP.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, when she presided over the women’s day celebrations organized by Buyende district local government, Babalanda who was flanked by state minister, Diana Mutasingwa was welcome by a mammoth crowd believed to be the largest political gathering in the history of the district.

Cheers and warm reception flooded Iringa Township primary school as the polite locals hospitably welcomed the amazing minister at the colourful event.

The salutations now challenge the recent reports of a purported group of vulnerable youths who reportedly rejected the announcements of Balanda to become the legislator of Budiope West.

Intelligence information received by The Eye Media Political Desk indicates that the group was funded by some politicians who are feeling the vibe of the determined humble servant.

We have since established that Ronald Opiti, the chairperson of “Iringa Kabonge boys Mwoyo gwa Buyende,” led the group.

In their arguments and pleas, the protesting youths who stormed the dusty roads of Nkondo and Kidera trading centres say they are not interested in ministerial positions but instead need effective service deliveries.

However, in her remarks at the Women’s Day celebrations held at  Iringa Township primary school the service delivery and development oriented Babalanda tipped residents on the significance of educating young children, especially the girl child rather than engaging in political fights.

The minister who advocated for championing life skills called on parents and other residents to participate in income generating activities in a bid to live sustainable lives.

“I call upon our men to remain supportive to the feminine gender who are always vulnerable as can’t live an independent life,” said Babalanda.

On her part, Minister Mutasingwa appealed to the residents of Buyende to refrain from messages of hatred and sectarianism and instead focus on individuals who are well connected and have have the heart of people.

“I am not a born of Buikwe district, but my achievements in the constituency speak volumes,” said Mutasingwa, the woman member of Parliament for Buikwe district.

She emphasised the need for those eyeing for Budiope West constituency to lay their manifesto at the opportune time other than promoting hate speech.

Betty Otekat Akello, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Buyende, threatened to apprehend sectarianism promoters to face legal actions.
