Ivan Lubega, Kiira FM’s only Luganda News anchor is now a staff at the Kyesimira based Busoga One FM.

This is a big blow to the struggling 88.6 Kiira radio, which boasts as the “Pride of the Nile.”

Kiira lost the talented and easy-spoken newsman, Lubega, on Monday, July 15, 2024, after serving the station for nearly eight years as the editor and anchor.

He went at Busoga One to replace the popular Luganda News anchor Rogers Mbajjwe, who quit the juicy station for the hustling 92.5 YoVo FM as the station manager in the rural Mayuge district.

Commonly known as “Omusajja Tagelerwa Nzaalo,” Lubega has left Kiira’s “Amabobeze” bulletin (Kiira only serious bulletin at 9pm) in comma.

The station is now trusting the Busoga Enuma hit maker Captain Jinja (Amuza Mande) and Richard Kawooma in the newsroom.

Busoga one’s Webuzibiire bulletin is boosted with Lubega pairing with Esther Nanyombi, who was fished from City FM.

Making it official, Lubega even wrote a comprehensive goodbye notice to Kiira radio station management directed by Lutheran Bishop Charles Bameka.

Colleagues in the media fraternity of Jinja are extending kudos messages to the duo, congratulating Lubega for advancing from the unpaying Kiira fm.

Godfrey Matsiko attached to NTV and Spark TV is happy with the duo’s new home. He says the anchors will “eat well.”

“Lubega, congratulations because the reason why we all leave our homes every day to make our families happy, whatever that can make your family happy, go for it, kudos brother,” said Matsiko.

“Lubega, I wish you da best. Seeing u as an intern , I believed in u n an am always grateful to God that u have not disappointed me. I wish u the very best in ur media journey,” James Mutyabule, former managing director of Victoria FM, congratulated Lubega.

Lubega was, on Monday evening, escorted by a cohort of journalists to the new station located at the new Nile Bridge after a special party organized at Narambai Road.

Namayingo Deputy RDC, Trevor Solomon Baleke who remains a friend to Jinja media fraternity cautioned journalists against quitting jobs without giving prior notice to their bosses.

“When you are planning to quit, please inform your bosses in advance so that they can source your replacement than leaving them in a state of confusion with abrupt resignation,” said Baleke while addressing journalists who turned up for Lubega’s party in Jinja on Monday evening.

He described Lubega as a young focused and hardworking person whose future was bright.

Sharing the same WhatsApp groups, Kiira fm administrators are made mute with the overwhelming castigations, but Meddy Lutaaya, the station’s Programmes Director (PD) s still gambling with explanations that are yielding nothing.

Kiira fm remains stranded with whom they can replace as Lubega’s successor.
