In a bold response to recent personal attacks by opposition figure Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Hajji Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, has challenged the Kira Municipality MP to formally write to President Museveni for a fitness challenge.

Kirunda took to social media to respond to Ssemujju’s jibes, pointing out that the President’s physical fitness at 80 far surpasses that of many of his critics including Ssemujju himself.

Highlighting Museveni’s impressive trek of 195 kilometers from Galamba to Birembo, Kirunda questioned whether Ssemujju, at his age, could manage even half of that distance. He referenced Ssemujju’s role in promoting the “tojikwatako” movement, which opposed lifting the presidential age limit from the Constitution, with many arguing that Museveni was too old to continue leading the country.

“Now they see him getting more fit and alert at 80 and have nothing to tell Ugandans, hence resorting to personal attacks and mockery,” Kirunda said in his tweet. He emphasized the importance of engaging in practical discussions about substantive national issues rather than focusing on personal attacks.

Many Ugandan especially Museveni’s supporters argue that age should not be a barrier to leadership if the individual remains physically and mentally capable.

By invoking Museveni’s stamina and accomplishments, the Deputy Press Secretary sought to remind critics of the President’s enduring commitment to Uganda.

Kirunda has urges the opposition to shift their focus away from superficial criticisms and instead engage in meaningful discussions on the issues that truly affect Ugandans.
