Kampala –  The State House has dismissed reports that President Yoweri Museveni has appointed a new Executive Director for the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). This comes after heightened speculation following the dismissal of former KCCA Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka, and other top KCCA officials by the President.

In a tweet posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Hajji Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary clarified Wednesday that no such appointment has been made and that any updates regarding the appointment of a new Executive Director will be communicated through official government channels.

“It’s not true that H.E the President has appointed a new Executive Director of KCCA. The General Public will be informed through official channels once a new E.D is appointed. Thank you! FK,” Kirunda stated.

Speculations emerged after the dismissal of Dorothy Kisaka and several high-ranking KCCA officials, reportedly over mismanagement at the Kiteezi landfill. The dismissal came as a result of concerns over environmental and operational issues at the landfill, which had attracted public outcry due to its poor handling of waste management and the resulting health risks.

The role of KCCA’s Executive Director is critical in managing the city’s administration, urban planning, infrastructure projects, and service delivery to millions of residents in Kampala. With Kisaka’s exit, the leadership void at KCCA has generated much anticipation, with many awaiting news of her replacement.

However, Kirunda’s clarification highlights the government’s commitment to transparency and the importance of relying on official announcements for such significant changes. The public has been urged to disregard unverified reports circulating on social media and await formal communication regarding the new KCCA leadership.

The incoming Executive Director will be tasked with addressing key urban challenges and driving Kampala’s development agenda as part of the broader vision for modernization and efficient service delivery.

This leadership transition will be closely watched, given the critical role KCCA plays in shaping the future of Uganda’s capital city.
