Police officers in Kayunga District have been encouraged to wisely invest their enhanced salaries and build secure homes for their future.

The advice was given by Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), Trevor Solomon Baleke during a one-day workshop with officers from Kayunga Central Police Station (CPS) and outpost Officers-in-charge, ahead of the festive season.

Addressing the officers on Friday, November 29, 2024, Baleke stressed the importance of planning for retirement by using their current income for investment.

“This year, the government enhanced your salaries not for reckless living, but to invest in your future. Ensure that when you retire, you live comfortably in a home you’ve built,” he said.

Baleke encouraged the officers to construct decent homes in their villages, emphasizing that retirement should be a time for peace and happiness.

“Make sure your name is in your village’s burial association book. When you retire, return to your roots and live well among the people you served,” he added.

He also advised officers to maintain integrity, warning against harmful behaviors such as womanizing or chasing after young boys, urging them to focus on caring for their families.

The DRDC also addressed issues of professional conduct, urging officers to avoid corrupt practices and maintain the public’s trust.

“One officer’s misconduct reflects poorly on the entire force and tarnishes our reputation as a country. Your good deeds build trust with the public, and in so doing you’re mobilizing for us as government, while any misbehavior turns people against us,” Baleke remarked.

He also warned the officers against being used by politicians, urging them to remain impartial and treat all citizens equally.

“As officers of the Uganda Police Force, you must treat everyone fairly, regardless of their political affiliations. Do not chase away citizens who seek your help. If the issue is civil, simply guide them to the right channels,” Baleke stated.

In closing, Baleke reminded the officers that their duty is to serve the community with dignity and respect, helping to strengthen the bond between the people and the government.
