Soroti District has officially launched the construction of a Regional Animal Diagnostics Laboratory and Breeding Center in Katine Sub-County, marking a major milestone in the region’s agricultural development.
The project, which is set to enhance the local cattle economy, is backed by a 2.7 billion shilling investment from the government.
The launch event was graced by the leadership of Soroti District Local Government (DLG) and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
Soroti District Chairperson, Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu, expressed his appreciation for the government’s decision to invest in Soroti, emphasizing that the facility would revitalize the region’s cattle industry and improve livestock management.
“This project will be a game-changer for Soroti and its surrounding regions,” Hon. Ekuu said, thanking the government for selecting the district as the site for such a vital development.
Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Eseru Paul, who was the Chief Guest at the launch, echoed these sentiments, stressing the significance of the project in addressing the challenges faced by local farmers.
He called on the community to fully support and embrace the initiative, which is expected to provide vital services such as animal diagnostics and breeding to enhance livestock production.
The launch was attended by various district and sub-county leaders, alongside members of the local community, all of whom showed strong support for the project.
The Regional Animal Diagnostics Laboratory and Breeding Center is expected to significantly boost the livestock sector in Soroti, improving productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices in the region.
