Police in Kisoro District have launched investigations into the brutal murder of a 72-year-old man, whose body was discovered with deep stab wounds just metres from his home.
The deceased, identified as Jackson Muhabura, alias Kakoraki, a resident of Kabitojo Village, Kigeyo Ward, Nyanamo Town Council, was found dead in the early hours of Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Rishekye Village, Nyamuyaga Ward, Nyanamo Town Council.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the elderly man was last seen alive on the night of May 31, socialising at Nyamuyaga Trading Centre.
“He left the centre to head home, but on the morning of June 1, at around 7:00 am, his body was discovered lying along the road, just a few metres from his residence, with multiple deep cuts on the head,” ASP Maate reported.
The gruesome discovery was first reported by the area LC I Chairperson, Erasmus Twinamatsiko, who immediately notified Nyanamo Police Post. A case of murder was opened, prompting a swift response from both Nyanamo Police Post and Kisoro Central Police Station.
Police officers visited the scene, processed and documented the evidence, and conducted an on-site examination of the body before it was handed over to the deceased’s relatives for burial.
ASP Maate said investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects behind the killing.
