By 8:00am on Tuesday, youthful Buzaaya County MP hopeful, Counsel Stephen Muzuusa, had already arrived at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala to pick his nomination forms—setting the pace in what is shaping up to be a generational contest in Busoga’s Buzaaya County.
Muzuusa, a dynamic legal mind and grassroots mobiliser, officially joins the race that has long been dominated by political veterans—former Minister Isaac Musumba and incumbent MP Martin Muzaale. However, a growing section of voters believes that time is ripe for a paradigm shift.
Among the three strongest contenders, Muzuusa stands out not just for his youth but for his clean and people-centred campaign record. He appeals to the youth, women, and the silent majority who are increasingly disenchanted with the violent and recycled politics that have long characterised Buzaaya.
“This time, we are not choosing between the past and the present. We are choosing the future,” said one voter on Team Muzuusa from Nawanyago, who hailed Muzuusa’s decision to run again.
Muzuusa is no stranger to the Buzaaya electorate. In 2016, he ran a strong campaign but lost to Musumba. Despite the setback, he remained committed to serving the community.
He has since drilled boreholes in underserved villages, supported youth start-ups, and empowered women groups—actions that have not gone unnoticed by the grassroots.
With many residents yearning for a break from the decades-old Musumba-Muzaale political rotation—often marred by intimidation and violence—Muzuusa is being seen as the breath of fresh air Buzaaya urgently needs.
“This is not just about politics. It’s about restoring dignity to our politics and service to our people,” Muzuusa told The Eye Media shortly. “I am therefore already here (at the NRM Secretariat) only waiting for Dr Tanga Odoi to arrive and I pick my nomination forms,” he added.
As the NRM primaries approach, the momentum around Muzuusa’s bid continues to build.
