The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of playing partisan politics after the body declared that he has not gathered sufficient signatures from several districts required for his 2026 presidential nomination.

In an angry statement posted on his X handle on Friday afternoon, the singer-turned-politician described the Commission as “shameless” for rejecting what he insists were more than enough endorsements from across the country.

According to the EC report dated September 19, 2025, Kyagulanyi has only 80 completed districts out of the 98 required, leaving 18 districts pending. Among the districts flagged as “incomplete” include Alebtong, Amuru, Bukwo, Bushenyi, Dokolo, Gulu City, Gomba, Iganga, Kakumiro, and Kamuli.

“GISOs, DISOs, RDCs have been intimidating our supporters, threatening them and forcing them to deny their signatures. The Commission then claims those people disowned us and removes them from our list. Criminals!” Kyagulanyi ranted.

The EC report, however, shows incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s endorsements as “more than enough,” sparking further allegations of bias.

Kyagulanyi has since issued an urgent call to registered voters from the affected districts, urging them to rush to NUP headquarters at Makerere-Kavule on Saturday, September 20, 2025, between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, to sign fresh endorsement forms.

“Our nomination is on Tuesday, 23rd September 2025. We must not be cheated out of this process,” he declared, rallying supporters with the hashtag #ProtestVote2026.

The development has set the stage for a heated political week as Uganda inches closer to a defining electoral season.
