Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among this Friday, January 2, 2026 has sent Busaana playgrounds in Kayunga district into excitement after openly endorsing NRM Woman MP flag bearer for Kayunga District, Jackline Birungi, describing her as a brilliant, sharp and promising young leader fit for national leadership.
Speaking at the ongoing NRM presidential rally for Kayunga District, Among told the massive crowd that it would not be a loss for her to groom Birungi and even hand over the powerful position of Speaker of Parliament to her in the future, should Kayunga voters overwhelmingly send the young politician to Parliament.
“I am confidently going groom her. It would not be a loss for me to even hand over the Speakership to Jackline Birungi. Kayunga should be proud of this daughter,” Among declared, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
The Speaker praised Birungi’s intellect, discipline and political maturity, saying the ruling party needs youthful, principled leaders like Birungi who understand the NRM ideology and can defend government programmes both in Parliament and among the people.
Among further assured voters that if elected, Birungi would enjoy her full support and close mentorship at Parliament. “I will make sure she sits next to my office so that I guide her,” she said, attracting thunderous applause from the gigantic crowd.
She asked the people of Kayunga to stop listening to the politicians who make malicious baseless allegations against Birungi.
“I hear those with crocodile tears, lying to our people that Birungi’s family grab land. Those lies won’t work because if someone has grabbed land, why don’t you take them to court other than using it year in, year out for campaigns?” she wondered.
Turning to government performance, Among highlighted several development projects delivered by the NRM government in Kayunga District, noting that infrastructure remains a top priority. She reminded residents that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni personally commissioned the tarmacking of the Kayunga–Galiraya road in July last year.
“Last month, Parliament passed a budget of Shs331 billion for the Kayunga–Galiraya road. This is not talk; this is money already approved to transform this district,” Among emphasized.
She urged voters to continue supporting the NRM, arguing that only the ruling party has the capacity, experience and commitment to deliver lasting development, peace and stability.
Among also thanked Kayunga delegates for their unwavering support during the recent NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections, revealing that all delegates from the district voted for her, contributing to her victory as the Second National Vice Chairperson of the NRM.
She specifically acknowledged the leadership of Mr Moses Kalisa Kalangwa, who led the Kayunga delegation during the CEC elections. Birungi is Kalangwa’s daughter.
“I will never forget Kayunga. You stood with me, and I will always stand with you,” Among told the crowd.
The rally, attended by thousands of NRM supporters, local leaders and party mobilisers, underscored the ruling party’s determination to consolidate support in Kayunga as preparations for the 2026 general elections gather momentum.
