As you are all aware, 17 students of Lhubirira Secondary School, located in Nyabugando cell, Nyabugando ward, Mpondwe Lhubirira Town Council, in Kasese district, were burnt beyond recognition, in the boy’s dormitory, during the tragic terror attack on the school by suspected ADF, on the 16.06.2023.
As a result, the police forensic experts from the Directorate of Forensic Services, together with the Joint Medical Teams from the Police, UPDF and Bwera, obtained biological samples from the unidentified bodies and from the relatives who were missing their children.
The samples marked Body 1-17, were immediately submitted to the forensic lab for further DNA analysis.
Police on evening of Monday June 26, 2023 issued a statement in which they informed the country that they had successfully finished matching of 11 bodies with their relatives out of the 17.
The 17 students were badly burnt and only a DNA could help to match them with their relatives.
Families of those 17 student victims have since the day of the attack been waiting for when they could get at least some remains to burry.
“We further call upon the relatives to the remaining 6 victims, whose bodies have not yet been identified to send their biological mothers, maternal aunts and or maternal grandparents, to Bwera Police Station, on Tuesday 27.06.2023 at 10am, for sampling,” said the police spokesperson Fred Enanga in a statement.
The burial arrangements continue to be coordinated by Government, through the Ministry of Education and Sports.
