Police in Rukungiri district have arrested Tuhamize Sperius, a resident of Nyabakobora village, Bwanga parish, Nyarushanje sub-county, for allegedly murdering his wife, Kiiza Doreen, 37, in a domestic dispute.
According to a statement from Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the incident happened on January 13, 2025, at around 11:00 PM.
Tuhamize reportedly accused his wife of infidelity during an argument, which escalated when he picked up a stick and fatally assaulted her.
After committing the crime, the suspect locked the house and turned himself in at Kiyenje Police Post at around 5:30 AM the following morning, confessing to the act.
The Officer in Charge (OC) notified Kanohire Benson, the chairman of Nyabakobora Cell, who, along with the suspect’s brother, Byakoramu Wilson, confirmed the victim’s death at the scene.
Police officers visited the crime scene, documented the evidence, and recovered the stick believed to have been used in the assault. The body of the deceased was transported to Rwakabengo HC3 mortuary for a postmortem examination.
