Irked by the reports of torture, ballot stuffing and alleged invasion of the home of one of the candidates and his subsequent bearing up, President Museveni on June 26, 2023 issued a directive the head of State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Brig Gen Henry Isoke, to investigate allegions.
The President said he was irritated by the information that on the nomination eve, government officials invaded the house of one of the candidates David Steven Omagor, confiscated his academic credentials and also stole Shs263m from him.
“I have got some disturbing information where our NRM candidate won with 91 per cent. I am now getting information that government officials on the night of the nomination invaded the house of Omagor, confiscated his academic papers and stole Shs263m from him so that he could not be nominated the following morning,” he explained.
Further more, the President instructed the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to thorough invesitigare allgetion of ballot stuffing by the same government officials.
“This sounds like a film. However, I want to be sure that Uganda does not go back to the crime of 1980 with the Muwanga elections that forced us to go to the bush,” Museveni penned.
Museveni ordered the Isoke-led Unit to take action and report to him if it finds any government officials culpable.
“…if any criminality was committed, take action and report back,” penned Museveni.
