Police is Lugazi is hunting for Lugazi Municipal Council Community Development Officer (CDO) to answer charges of abuse of office and demanding for money by menace.
Ruth Nahone allegedly demanded for a kickback of Shs. 500,000 from Kabula Diary Elders Group as commission after recommending them to benefit Shs. 5 million from government under the ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
The group comprises of five vulnerable elderly persons who ran to the CDO for help to benefit the government money with plans of investing it in diary farming.
The group of these elderly men and women intended to use the project to improve their standards of living.
But it is alleged that when the Shs. 5 million was deposited on the group account in Finance Trust Bank, Lugazi branch, the CDO called the group chairman and demanded for the kickback on June 27, 2023.
When they withdrew the money on June 29, Nahone made sure she get her 10 percent kickback.
“Nahone Ruth rung the group chairman that the moeny had been deposited on the group account and that the chairman should go for a meeting in her (CDO’s) office….she informed him that after withdrawing the money he should remit to her office Shs. 500,000. She instructed him to leave the money with her secretary, Grace in case he doesn’t find her there,” said Butoto Hellen the Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson.
Grace Laso Magero the secretary who received the Shs 500,000 on the behalf of the CDO has been arrested and the money exhibited as the hunt for Nahone goes on.
“The secretay is in custody at Lugazi CPS as we look for Nahone who has since gone into hiding,” Butoto added.
