The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) Monday July 10, 2023 evening released a statement on the arrest of the Resident District Commissioner of Bukedea, Wilberforce Tukei and the District PoliceCommander (DPC), Superintendent of Police (SP) Charles Okoto.
SHACU says the two security chiefs are held on crimes allegedly committed during the recent LCV chairperson by-election in Bukedea district.
It is alleged that the duo failed on their job before, during and after the by-election.
The duo allegdly remained cross-legged in the comfort of their offices as election stakeholders including candidates, polling agents, journalists and voters were being intimidated and assaulted.
“Following intensive investigations into reported criminal activities in the recent LC V Chairperson by- elections in Bukedea District, @AntiGraft_SH has arrested the RDC Bukedea, Mr. Wilberforce Tukei and the DPC , SP Charles Okoto, for failing to act on, among others, rampant acts of intimidation and assault of some candidates, polling agents, journalists and voters,” the Anti-Graft Unit said in a tweet.
As Head of the District Security Committee, the RDC plays oversight role of Govt activities/programs in the District.
He also, coordinates all other Government departmental Heads and engages on any emergency that has come up.
In Election time, RDC coordinates and ensures smooth transition in election time which the SHACU says did not happen in the Bukedea case.
So far, 8 people have been arrested including ,RDC Bukedea Wilberforce Tukei, SP Charles Okoto, D/ASP Ehguloiti Alex, PC Akankwasa Onesmus, PC Oriokot Simon Peter, PC Kamakoin Difas PC Born Naibei and Councillor Malinga Dan.
