Four Ugandans have been confimed dead in an attack by suspected armed South Sudanese in Lamwo district, says authorities.
The attack on five Ugandans, members of one family occured on Monday July 10, 2023 in their gardens at a place called Obworo hills in Lelabul east village, lemur parish in Lokung east sub county.
South Sundanese and Ugandans have for some time been having a border conflict with each side claiming ownership of the particular part where the attack took place.
Following the attack, the UPDF immediately confirmed and retrieved one dead body.
But in a search for the other four family members, the locals discovered three more dead bodied Tuesday afternoon.
Lamwo Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Sébastian Oguti Oswin who doubles as Deputy Dean of RDCs in Uganda confirmed this report Tuesday evening.
Oguti said all the deceased family members were residents of Ongalo cell, Ogwech ward in Lamwo Town Council.
“All the four dead bodies are in Padibe Health Centre IV for management. I am just from there right now,” Oguti told the Eye Media.
The Deputy Dean of RDC added that the motive of the killings are related to land issues and demand for money from Ugandans by the south Sundanese.
“The suspected South Sudanese claim that where the people are farming is in South Sudan,” he said.
He called on the Ministries of Lands and Foreign Affairs to take action.
“This issue of International boundaries is for Kampala and Juba and we call upon them to handle. Our people leaving at the border of South Sudan deserve peace,” he said.
