Four-time presidential candidate and founder member of the Forum for Democratic Change, Rtd Col Dr Kiza Besiyge has said the struggle to uproot military rule in Uganda has been hampered by betral from the people the opposition thought were in the same struggle against president Museveni.
Besigye says now those sticking to fighting President Museveni’s rule are being fought by some individuals who have been calling themselves opposition.
Besigye made the remarks on Tuesday September 19, 2023 while addressing FDC delegates at his office along Katonga road in Kampala.
“We must also be aware that it’s not just the Junta hunting us, tear gassing us but it’s now the Junta together with our colleagues,” he said.
Besigye accused the FDC leadership of Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Secretary General) and Patrick Oboi Amuriat (president) of betrayal and intended demolition of the party in favour of president Museveni.
“Those we trusted to lead us, cause the change for which FDC was set up and this did not come as a surprise as we have been saying because the Junta set out to end all voices of change,” he said.
Subsequently, the delegates present, denounced Nandala and Amuriat and named Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago their nterim president.
It is now clear that the Katonga based faction has its own leadership under Lukwago.
