The Inspector General of Police, IGP John Martins Okoth Ohcola, has promoted a total of 9,312 police officers.
According to a statement released by Commissioner of Police Polly Namaye, the deputy police spokesperson, the promotion of subordinate officers was effected on June 1, 2023.
Namaye explained in the statement that the promotions were granted based on several criteria, including seniority, work record, acting positions, exemplary performance in operations and assigned tasks, as well as the disciplinary history of the officers.
The breakdown of the promotions is as follows:
- Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) to Inspector of Police (IP): 1,145 officers
- Head Constable Major (HCM) to Inspector of Police (IP): 5 officers
- Head Constable (HC) to Head Constable Major (HCM): 3 officers
- Station Sergeant to Head Constable: 28 officers
- Sergeant (Sgt) to Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP): 1,531 officers
- Corporal (Cpl) to Sergeant: 2,644 officers
- Police Constable to Corporal: 3,956 officers
This promotion represents the most recent advancement for subordinate officers, following the previous round in 2021, where 3,097 officers were promoted to various non-commissioned ranks.
Namaye conveyed congratulations to the officers and their families on this well-deserved promotion. She also encouraged them, along with all other officers, to continue their dedicated service to the public
