Police in Mayuge are hunting for unknown assailants who Sunday morning at around 2:00am shot dead a prominent businesman.
Hajji Hamuza Ngobi who owns a fleet of businesses in Bwondha, Bugadde and Mayuge town councils in Mayuge district and in Iganga town was shot as he got into his house in Bwondha.
Police swiftly swung into action and managed to arrest one suspect only identified as Sulah, a residents of Bwondha.
Meanwhile fracas ensured when residents got charged, broke into the police cells at Bwondha and pulled Sulah out and demanded that they lynch the suspect.
Even when police from the region went to Bwondha to rescue the suspect, the mob overpowered them and stoned Sulah to death before setting his body ablaze.
In the scuffle, one person yet to be identifed was shot dead by the police.
Diana Nandawula the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson has cofirmed this report.
By 12:45pm Sunday June 18, 2023 the pooice was still battling with the mob trying to calm down the situation so that the bodies could be taken in vain.
The charged residents say, they want Sulah’s body burnt to ashes.
