The Kumam Cultural leader His Highness Won Atekerin Raphael Otaya has condemned the recent suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADf) rebel group attack in Kasese.
On a Friday night last week, suspected rebels attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese district near the Congo border, killing at least 41 people in a nighttime raid before fleeing across the porous frontier. Thirty-eight students in their dormitories were among the victims.
This school is privately owned, apparently built by an NGO, led by somebody called Peter Hunter, a Canadian working both in DRC and Uganda.
The military statement said the rebels abducted six students, taken as porters of food looted from the school’s store.
His highness Otaya in an interview with Eye Media extended his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families of victims calling for an end to what he termed barbaric and inhuman acts by people of evil thoughts.
“I want to extend my sincere sympathies to the bereaved people of Kasese, especially the parents of the victims. It’s a national loss and I want to urge all Ugandans in line with national objective and directive principles no three that directs all Ugandans should unite and bring peace in their places of living” His Highness Otaya.
He called for vigilance among citizens In Uganda by reporting any suspicious person around their places. “Its good that you know who is next to you’ he added.
The peace loving and newly enthroned cultural leader also sympathized with the cultural leader for the Rwenzururu Kingdom King Charles Wesley Mumbere.
Mumbere, in whose jurisdiction the tragic incident happened, had just been released from prison last week after the Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo withdrew all charges against the King and his subjects. The charges include murder, terrorism, and treason, malicious damage to property, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery, among others.
