In what is being described as a “big fish catch”, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has secured a major defection in Kaberamaido District after Mr. Epilu Patrick, the LCIII Chairman of Oriamo Sub-county and Deputy Minister of Environment in Kumam Cultural Heritage, officially crossed from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to join the NRM ranks.
The high-profile switch was sealed during a colourful event held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, attended by top district leaders and NRM stalwarts.
Key among those present were Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Lotem Linos, Deputy RDC Hood Kisenene, Assistant RDCs Arikosi Peter and Adakun Rashid, NRM District Chairman Ali Hassan Emetu, and several other party faithful.
Addressing the gathering, RDC Lotem Linos welcomed the defector and used the biblical parable of the prodigal son to symbolically describe Mr. Epilu’s return “home” to NRM.
“We welcome you back to the family of unity and progress. To those still outside, the doors remain open—come and join the winning team,” the RDC urged.
Linos also reiterated the NRM’s ambition of scoring 100% in all national elections across the district, revealing that only a few remaining spots in Ochero and Aperkera sub-counties are yet to fully embrace the movement.
In a symbolic gesture, NRM District Chairman Ali Hassan Emetu handed Mr. Epilu Patrick an NRM yellow T-shirt—an official gift sent by none other than the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
Observers say the move is a strategic boost for the ruling party in Kaberamaido, cementing its grassroots influence ahead of future political contests.
